Huen Jai Yong (เฮือนใจ๋ยอง) – A few years ago, when Ying and I were in Chiang Mai, Thailand, we ate at Huen Jai Yong (เฮือนใจ๋ยอง) and were impressed with the taste of the Northern Thai food and the amazing antique filled atmosphere. On this trip to Chiang Mai, we were still craving the delicious food, and so we went there again this time for lunch.
The menu is a full checklist including a couple dozen Northern Thai dishes that you can choose from.
Here’s what we ordered:
Gai neung (ไก่เมืองนึ่งสมุนไพร)
Gaeng hanglay (แกงฮังเล)
Khua ho (คั่วโฮ๊ะ)
Nam prik noom (น้ำพริกนุ่ม)
Saa pak gad noi (ส้าผักกาดน้อย)
Gaeng khae (แกงแค)
Tam khanun (ตำขนุน)
Total price – 670 THB ($21.35)
While you can’t go wrong and just about everything you order will be delicious, I’m particularly in love with their Gai neung (ไก่เมืองนึ่งสมุนไพร), chicken in a huge amount of herbs and fresh spices, then steamed. It’s sensational.
I think what stands out to me about the food at Huen Jai Yong (เฮือนใจ๋ยอง) is that everything is solidly good, it’s reliable, and a great family restaurant, and I think overall it’s one of the best Northern Thai food restaurants in Chiang Mai – that I’ve tried.
Next time you’re in Chiang Mai, go check it out for authentic northern Thai food. It’s about a 15 minute drive from the center of the city.

Does anyone know of an Indonesian restaurant run my a Malaysian family on Loi Kroh Road? I had a wonderful dinner there in Oct 2018 but when I went again in Feb 2020 it wasn't there. Does anyone know if they have closed shop or have shifted somewhere in Chiang Mai? (Perhaps Loi Kroh Road wasn't an ideal family place for the restaurant.
